North Carolina State Profile

Posted on October 20, 2014 by Colleen Clayton

One of the original 13 colonies, North Carolina has an interesting history. It was the first state to instruct its delegates to vote for independence from the British crown during the Continental Congress and officially gained statehood on November 21, 1789. North Carolina joined the confederate states during the civil war and sent more recruits to fight than any other rebel state. An event that is likely more memorable is the First Flight. The Wright brothers took off on the first manned self-propelled airplane flight in 1903.
